The Musicians

Born in East Bengal in 1862, Acharya Baba Allauddin Khan, the greatest North Indian Classical musician of his time, was father to Maestro Ali Akbar Khan. Baba Allauddin Khan lived 110 years, played a great many instruments and taught Maestro Ali Akbar Khan, Pt. Ravi Shankar, Smt. Annapurna Devi and the twentieth century’s finest Indian Classical musicians.
American born Alam Khan is the sarodist son and student of Maestro Ali Akbar Khan, and the grandson of Acharya Baba Allauddin Khan. Like his father and grandfather before him, Alam’s fondest desire is to keep the river of North Indian Classical music flowing.
Born in 1922 in East Bengal, sarode Maestro Ali Akbar Khan trained 18 hours a day for 20 years under the tutelage of his father Acharya Baba Allauddin Khan. Maestro Ali Akbar Khan was deemed a “National Living Treasure” in India and the late concert violinist Lord Yehudi Menuhin described him as, “an absolute genius...the greatest musician in the world.”
